Young Voices on the UN Convention

poster of a young boy carrying his young disabled friendThe Young Voices project works with disabled young people to develop their understanding of human rights and advocacy and increase their capacity for active citizenship in Kenya, Uganda, Sudan and Ethiopia. Representative groups of young people with disabilities are formed in each country and are then trained in working with media and the press, how to access and influence governments and how to write and present proposals to UN agencies and donors.

Achievements

In Sudan the Young Voices participate weekly on Radio Bakhita FM and Mirya FM and educate the public on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Young voice members from Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda have been trained on film making by award winning film makers Ron McCullagh and Sorious Samura. With the cameras that they were provided they have made some amazing short films which can be viewed on the Young Voices microsite on the LCD International website www.lcint.org
