National Cheshire Services Ethiopia

There are two Cheshire organisations in Ethiopia – Cheshire Services Ethiopia and Cheshire Foundation Ethiopia.

Cheshire Services Ethiopia

Cheshire Services Ethiopia is one of the oldest Cheshire partners in the East and North African Region.

Their Coordination Office is based in Addis Ababa and they provide rehabilitation services with emphasis on children and young people, prevention of disabilities, awareness raising programs in the community, advocacy and provision of support for education. They also do vocational training, income generation activities and avoidance of barriers that hinder inclusion of persons with disabilities in the society.

Cheshire Foundation Ethiopia

Cheshire Foundation Ethiopia (CFE) was established in 1985. CFE facilitates the provision of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) services focusing on the prevention of disability, rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and advocacy activities. They also undertake various project activities in three regions (Addis Ababa, Oromiya and Amhara Regions) through four project offices (Addis Ababa, Jimma, Dessie and Bahir Dar).

The regional office is currently supporting CFE to implement an Economic Empowerment project in Bahir Dar, Amhara Region. The overall goal of this two-year project is to train 100 disabled people and their families in specific skills, create access and improve their physical condition to help them become more self-reliant.
