Seychelles
The Seychelles is ranked number 50 on the Human Development Index and is the most developed country in the region.
Cheshire Services in the Seychelles are some of the oldest in this region. There is no Cheshire Home in the Seychelles, but the Cheshire Services work with the local community, DPOs and the Seychelles Government to raise awareness and advocate for inclusion of disabled people.
The Seychelles was previously part of Leonard Cheshire Disability Southern Africa Regional Office and has only recently come into the East and North Africa region. We do not currently run any direct projects in the Seychelles but are looking at ways to increase our involvement. There is a long term goal to establish a drop-in transition centre to work with disabled people. The centre would provide disabled people with more information about disability issues and how they can actively take part in community life.
