Programme Officer Vacancy in Tanzania

Leonard Cheshire Disability, International is a UK-based organisation, working to change attitudes to disability and serving disabled people around the world. We do this through provision of training, support and management guidance to the independent services and projects around the world in the areas of education, economic empowerment, and practical support for every day life and conflict recovery and research.

The Liliane Foundation is a special foundation for disabled children in developing countries and operates on a personalized, small-scale and direct way. They give disabled children in developing countries a chance at rehabilitation by supporting the personal growth of the child and its integration in society. Besides medical/social rehabilitation and education, the Liliane Foundation also tries to include the people with disabilities and/or their families in the normal economic life and help them reaching a better quality of life.

We wish to recruit a Programme Officer

The Programme Officer, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania will report to the Regional Representative in Nairobi and the Tanzania Cheshire National Council. The Programme Officer will be responsible for the execution of all LF/LCD related activities including:

•    Direct assistance to disabled children and adolescents: regular rehabilitation program of the Liliane Foundation/LCD (medical/social rehabilitation, education).

•    Direct Assistance in economic empowerment of adolescents and families of disabled children by income generating projects.

•    Facilitate the development of basic Facilities.

•    Develop capacity building of disabled persons and other stakeholders (mediators) in close collaboration with PO to ensure optimal quality of services for disabled persons and sustainability of these interventions

•    Assists mediators on the preparation of individual child rehabilitation plan, monitors its implementation and provides advice and support as may be required.

•    Ensure timely reporting by mediators

•    Identifies the needs of the mediators and devices the most appropriate methods of addressing them.

•    Assists trainers in assessing the training needs of mediators and stakeholders.

•    Assessing the needs of mediators/PO to improve their skills in writing project proposals and in implementation of projects.

•    Closely monitoring and evaluating the process of projects undertaken in both countries to ensure sustainability of projects.

•    Prepare and compile qualitative and analytical reports and any other.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

•    Degree in Social Sciences and minimum of 3 years experience in the field of disability and rehabilitation work with a leading NGO/Government/International organization.

•    Should have an in-depth knowledge about disability and development issues at both local and global level.

•    An experienced trainer/facilitator with practical command of participatory methodology research.

•    Good interpersonal skills, with the capacity to deal effectively with Government, Private and Corporate sector officials.

•    Experience in advocacy, campaigns, networking and policy influencing at all levels.

•    A committed team player.

•    Well developed communication skills in English.

•    Project management including personnel and financial management.

•    Excellent oral and written communication skills.

•    Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situation.

•    Ability to work independently without supervision both in the office and in the field.

•    Computer literacy – Internet and MS Office applications
